Timed Assessment

Something a little new TIMED ASSESSMENT DAY!

Designer : Jasmine Willis
Assistant: Sadie Hiddleston

Face chart Designed by Jasmine Willis.

This will be the look that i will create on my model today. It may look like a few simple bits of detail but the precision you will need for this technique will be a challenge, which is just perfect for me. I am very excited to get started!

First of all i am all about complexion and getting that flawless look all over the skin! My model had very good skin indeed and took very well to my system and techniques.

Equipment:

Illamasqua satin primer
Illamasqua rich liquid foundation (mixture of tones)
Screen face concealer palette
Illamasqua MAC translucent powder
MaxFactor blusher
Brushes
Hairspray
Gold hair band
Aqua palette
Supra palette
Black liquid eyeliner
Gold glitter

Health and Safety:

check to see if my model has any allergies - NONE

Method:

1) I started creating Jasmines amazing look by removing all products from her skin and making as clean as possible. Cleanse, Moisturise and tone ritual.

2) I then applied the Illamasqua satin primer that i had to the skin to give me a base to work with as her skin was little open poured and this would work perfectly. Then i began to conceal her skin with matching up the correct colours needed for a specific area.

3) I then began to mix my Illamasqua rich liquid foundations that i had to create my models skin tone. She had a layer of fake tan on so i had to blend and make sure that i covered all areas necessary and there was no un-even patches. I really enjoyed doing this as i love working with complexion and creating a flawless look. Then moving on to the powder! I just powdered until she was matt and looked beautiful.

4) I then used my thinner brushes to be able to create the lines and detail across the forehead. I did have a little difficulty due to being so precise and having to have such a steady hand to create the perfect line but i love a challenge and believe i coped with it well. I then used the opposite end of my make up brush and dapped it into my white Aqua colour and create 5 small circles on the forehead and then created the gold line below it with another make up brush. I waited a few minutes in between as i used Aqua colour Gold as well as the supra colour (as its grease based) didn't show up as strong and wasn't as good to work with, whereas Aqua colour you can leave to dry for a few minutes and layer up and develop the colour stronger and stronger which is perfect for what i wanted to do to fit into Jasmines design. Then using the same black Aqua colour using that on the lip line and remembering pointing the tips of the lips and creating a strong line.

Moving onto the hair:

1) I began by using my water spray bottle and wetting the hair and brushing it all back into a high pony tail.

2) Using your hair band i then tied her hair up tightly to her head being careful not to hurt my model and then sprayed the hair with my hair spray to tuck in a stray bits on the hair which may be sticking out as the hair begins to dry from the water spray.

Over all i have really enjoyed being given this task. Having the opportunity to use someone else's design a re-create the look on a model is an amazing feeling when you make someone else happy with your techniques and skills on their designs. I feel like i have learnt a lot with this process, the difference in preparation, communication with the designer and the professionalism with in your work and making sure you do everything correctly to the face chart. Jasmine Willis said she was very happy with my outcome and i was to, i am very much looking forwards to maybe having this task again and furthering the experimentation and challenging myself.

In conclusion i am very pleased with my final images to submit them. As normal i can pick faults in my work but all in all i have learnt a very wide range of techniques with the duration of this course and i am very excited to continue with the rest of the year and keep you all updated and keep on learning and developing my skills.

Editorial Research and Development.

Editorial.

I began to get my ideas from the texture and material used within hair for my editorial look. i absolutely love big hair styles and believe it would look amazing for this particular theme.

A few music videos which i used as a point of research which are amazing and detailed with what i wanted!

Here is a mood board with a few gathered images which i used to gather ideas and get a wide perception of creation within a tribal take on an editorial shoot.

Kelis - classic icon for her music videos and styling through out!! amazing!

Another very good music video with excellent styling throughout! The make up, displaying textures and configured skin complexion i love and have carried this on through my experimentation's with using fillers-earth and clays to see what i can come up with!

Images i put together to focus on the aspects that i am choosing to focus on with this photo shoot.
EYES + HAIR!!

first face chart. I have decided that i didnt like the colour red of choice to use as i feel its not capturing tribal for me personally i feel like this is more super hero. I need a colour more low - key maybe purple?

Because i am choosing to focus on the hair and eyes i still want to keep good quality and perfect the skin and keep a low key colour on the lip.

Got the shape and sculpture that im looking for just need to get the textures and work more on the over all look!! Adding a head piece or jewellery ?

FillersEarth. when i started to play around with this product i created a very interesting look and texture. Originally i was trying to create a scarred tissue look but then i came with an idea to create this with a build up of colour and layers on the face with makeup. Eyeshadow and my supra colour palette was perfect for this!

I then started to create textures and patterns with the dolls heads hair. Twists and plaits and rolls created a beautiful effect on the hair but i didn't want to relate this into my editorial look with a hair up style i want to use this on the top of the hair and pull it back and play around and have all different directions and detail consisting in the hair.

This was what i came up with ..

This will be the top of the head and then i will be adding a head piece which will drape on the top of the head down the forehead. and then biggg biggg hair!!

This was a significant image that made me want to develop my hair even more! tight at the top of the head an then big. bold and free at the bottom!

Face chart for final design for my editorial look.

Preparation for the look!

The night before i have done my models finger nails and painted them with a aztec pattern and design created by myself.
(Black & White)

Testing, Testing!!

Lips

Eyes.
- The texture build up. I have used my aqua / supra colour palettes to create this look and topped it off with a gold sparkle onto using my supra range. This relating back to my experimentation with fillers earth has worked more then what i would of wanted and i m very pleased with this and looking forwards to re-creating again for the final day.

My model has perfect long hair for what i am looking for to do this look on. i have decided to use a gold spray on the ends as a dip-dye effect. I want to do my take on tribal editorial but also keep it up to date with the current trends and fashion within hair too todays date! I have always used gold when i was testing before hand because it would represent a goddess or tribal queen which is perfect. I want this shoot to end up looking like a in control tribal queen.

Brushed through prepared hair that i curled and put in rollers the night before.
Beautiful!

Final look! Ready to capture those perfect shots!

My model will appear to be nude in the final shots as like my catwalk images. Organic and natural i must keep current with these looks and having a tribal 'Wild Kingdom' theme.

Catwalk Research and Development

Catwalk.

Head dresses: In a lot of music videos/films/photo-shoots a lot of head dresses are used to show the theme or a cult/tribe of some sort. This was a screen shot from a female up and coming artist who has used head dresses in her styling throughout the music video! As you may tell this music video is an example of a low budget compared to a music video from an artist like Rihanna or Beyonce due to quality of wigs, hair make up and overall styling and filming. I still think this is a good video for this project and wanted to share this with you.
 Dawn Richard: BOMBS.

ScreenShot - The feathered Headdress.

Rihanna Music Videos.
Rihanna - Where Have You Been.

Below are a few screen shots from the video of where have you been from the singer herself Rihanna. In music there is such a multi-cultural view and side to everything which i absolutely love. From dance moves to appearance to lyrics and setting and staging i absolutely love the fact in todays age almost everything in society and history is all being mixed and brought into a vibrant view in the 21st century.
throughout the music video she consist of many different scenes with scarfs, heavy eye make up, draped in jewels and performing tribal dance moves. I managed to get a few screen shots of the backing dancers in a behind the scenes for this music video and the guys had bold paintwork on their bodys head to toe. This really did inspire me for my Catwalk look i wanted to recreated a high fashion take on body paint.

The skeleton look with a typical Halloween look really intrigues me with the horror of history behind the matter as well as bringing a tribal culture through my makeup and hair designs.

Live performance of 'where have you been-Rihanna' Screenshot of tribal costuming and hair.

Make up that i had done on my self which i have taken inspiration from towards my look. i like the fact of the attention to being brought to the forehead and beneath the eyes and around the eyes. I also like the white and skeleton look within this and wanted to bring this forwards into my catwalk look. Lines, shapes and aztec was the way to go from here.

Skeleton teeth i had done with black eye sockets and thick statement brow lines bringing in influence from the paint work that featured in the pictures above.

Image i have created and designed.

Image from google to give more ideas and develop drawings from.
Shading is the key, key, key!!

This face chart includes influence from the above images that i have created on myself and my model. I wanted to give that skeleton look with a tribal touch but i do feel that this look was to aggressive for catwalk and i wanted to gain something less over powering and more approachable and desecrate but still at the same time with a kick.

Testing Neckwear.
Twisting and changing the way the neckwear will lie on the body to see how it can give an over al different perception that one another. I prefer the split all around the body neckwear as it adds more dimension and chains to the body.
Split around the front area of the chest but spread out evenly.
Hooked underneath the armpits and around the lower body, hanging from the neck.
Draping directly from the neck on the body so it appears to have more chains and a lot going on. I don't think i will be choosing this one due to the fact i feel it might take away the attention from the art work i will be doing on the body.
One single Gold chain hooped onto another gold chain that i make with a simple little metal hoops and tweezers. I do like this idea but it needs a little added something.

Make up Test on myself.
(adding a feathered necklace to make it seem as a mini feathered headdress)
I dont really want to use a massive statement headdress as its catwalk i wanted to make a more abstract appearance on the body pain work and a few simple bits of jewellery but would give an extra something and represent the tribal theme well.

Test Run on my Model.

All 3, feather, chain and wooden beads. Mixing a contrast of colours, tones and textures.

Just feathers and chains. Think i still prefer the feathered necklace as an a-posed headdress.

Just chains loose over the shoulders not under. (not  fan looks too messy and sloppy)

Backless chain brought around to the front with sparkle. Looks a lot better without the sparkle showing maybe to cover it up with materials?
Dont think i'm a fan of gold think i'm moving in more of a silver direction!!

Wooden beads! Love these and think there amazing for this theme but i still pushed towards the silver chain i just love it. Although playing around with shapes?

Making it into a shorter tighter chocker? giving the impression of being restricted, locked and controlled. Representing if your being controlled but a religion or rules or your community?

gold backless chain flipped around with feather chocker?

Close up.. i like it but don't feel it had that WOW factor. Im thinking too simple.

From these test shoots i was thinking of having my model wear his african attire top but i think i wish for my model to be appeared ad naked so i can sculpted his body with my free hand paint work. I had also decided to develop my face chart and put more focus into other areas rather than the mouth and chin. My main issue was i wanted there to be a statement and for it to be as meaningful as possible but i feel like it may be too much so i decided to recreate this face chart...

This is my final face chart design for my look for a Tribal take for Catwalk.

Studio run through and test shots! now it gets exciting...

tested the chains falling forwards off the body and i feel it looks very much like a kinky impression and could come across as a very sexual look which is not what i want!

The chains crossed over the body and underneath the armpits is the one! woo finally got there! i think this gives the tribal look and catwalk look at the same time and i am very happy with this finally .. Professional pictures to come soon!!

How do i want my model to pose?

I am looking for my model to be able to give me character and enthusiasm through the images i also want to be able to have one of my images as though he believe to be royalty and on a thrown so in dictation or a tribe. The body shot i want as like a moving image to bring out the movement and creativity within the make up and hair and styling that i have created for this look.
Here are a few images and videos i had shown to my model in a discussion before the shoot of what i expect and wish for..

Nicki Minaj - Massive Attack

This is wear my MoodBoard comes into tack.

This is my mood board for my catwalk look i have developed my ideas within this board and i believe this has helped in more than one way especially showing my models thee own one to be able to get what i'm thinking across to them to deliver on set. Colour, tones, angles and garment ideas have been mainly taken into consideration with this mood board.

The main thing my model gave me feedback on was that the images which showed positioning and poise i had chosen to include really helped him get into the swing of things and deliver what i wanted. Tension and captivity was what i was looking for in this shoot
I can tell how much this was considered by the end results.
